General Race Information
We are very excited to be hosting 2 races this year, our challenging long course race and a new short course race. The differentiating factor is “119.1” triathlon and “51.5” triathlon so we have some guideline for you to follow.
- Transition:
Transitionwill open at 7am and all bikes, for the 119.1 triathlon and the 51.5 triathlon must be in transition by 8am.
Transition will not be open to athletes retrieving their equipment till 12 noon, and then they will be escorted into transition. This is to allow for racers still out on the course. No exceptions to the rules.
- Swim Course:
- 2 laps of 1000m of Lake Midnapore. Clean open water swim, mass start in a controlled environment. “119.1” Triathlon starts at 8am sharp.
- “51.5” Triathlon starts at 9:15am sharp, 2 laps of 750m loop
- Cutoff times are 9:15am for the “119.1” triathlon and 10:00am for the “51.5” triathlon.
- See detailed explanation on swim course details
- Bike Course:
- Out and Back from the community of Lake Midnapore onto Marquis of Lorne Trail (Hwy #22 West). One lane closed to vehicle traffic inside the city and a large shoulder to ride on outside of the city. A scenic and challenging ride out and back. All light controlled intersections controlled by the City of Calgary Police Department. Please pay attention to all road signs.
- See detailed explanation on the bike course details
- Run Course:
- One loop 10km through the community of Lake Midnapore and beautiful Fish Creek Park. 100% of the run is on paved and shale pathways. Beautiful race course.
- See detailed explanation on the run course details
- Turn arounds for the different races are well marked
- Banquets:
Pre-Race Banquet, time and date June 18th at 6pm
Pre- Race Banquet is at the Lake Bonavista Community Association Centre, location is: 1401 Acadia Drive SE. Directions: South on Deerfoot Trail to Anderson Blvd go west, to Acadia Dr, go south (left) and you will see the community centre on the right, about 1.5km south. On the menu is salad, buns, and 2 lasagnas, a meat and a veggie.
- Awards banquet, time and date June 19 at 6pm after the race
- Post-race Banquet is at the Lake Bonavista Community Association Centre, location is: 1401 Acadia Drive SE. Start time is 6pm, so you can go home and get rid of any body odor you might be carrying around with you (just kidding). We are going to have some fun at this event, we have loads of prizes to give away and cold refreshments. If you would like to bring a guest, they are welcome to come and partake in the festivities. You can buy the tickets at registration or at the door. We will have a selection of beer and wine.
- Race Info:
- Parking: Parking for the day will be at Centennial High School on Sun Valley Blvd. Directions: Take Macleod Trail south to Sun Valley Blvd east and turn left, follow road till you see school on right side. Parking is in the back of the school and signs will be posted. You will have a short walk across Sun Valley Blvd and the baseball field to the transition zone of the race "Great pre-race warm up". We ask you park in this location to take pressure off community street parking. I have had to jump through hoops to put this race on, and the Association would be greatly appreciated of us if we parked at the school. The distance to the race start is less then 250 meters. There will be no parking in and around the lake area, or race venue.
- Lake Midnapore Rules: Absolutely no pets, no alcohol (for those of you that need a bit of a pickup before race start), or littering in the park. I ask you treat this park as your own. Unfortunate, once the swim portion of the race is done we are required to have all guests leave the Park area. Again this is on request of the Lake Association, and I would love to have this race in future years. There is plenty of places to view the race, for example in Fish Creek Park, around the Transition area, and we have a ball diamond area where your family and friends can watch, or have them volunteer for the race and they get all the benefits of the race except racing.
- To your friends and family members: We have been asked by the residence along the transition area to please not walk or sit on their front lawns. Bring a lawn chair and a small umbrella to find some shelter from the elements. Please don’t litter, we have lots of garbage cans to dispose of the litter, in and around the transition area.
Our Run Captain, Lochlin McLellan, will be hosting a tour of the run course and a prerace volunteer meeting this Saturday, June 12th, at 1:45pm, for athletes and run course volunteers. If you would like to participate bring your mountain bike to the transition area at the South Entrance to Lake Midnapore. Check in will be at 1:45pm, discussion of the run course and Q&A will be begin at 2:00pm and we will be out riding the course and pointing out the important points by 2:30pm. Finished by about 3:15pm. If you have any questions please contact Lochlin at lmclellan@sabre-energy.com. REMEMBER TO BRING A MOUNTAIN BIKE FOR THE TOUR AS ABOUT 1/3 OF THE COURSE IS ON SHALE PATHES.

Please use judgment as this is not a closed course.
- We have hired Radio Watch to monitor the secondary intersections and merge lanes; they will do their best to control traffic. Please pay attention to their direction.
- Volunteers will be assisting the Police Service and Radio Watch, as well as controlling minor intersections. Please use judgment and remember the rules of the road apply. Remember be respectful and thank them for doing the job they are doing.

Run Course 51.5 Rules
- The run course consists of one lap within the community of Lake Midnapore on bike and running paths and Fish Creek Provincial Park. Fish Creek Park is one of the largest urban parks in North America. We have had sightings of bears in the deep west corner of the park. But don’t worry you’re running so you should be able to out run them if they spot you (just kidding). The sightings are far from our run course. You might see the odd Deer, a Beaver, or a Blue Heron just to name a few of the other animal species in the park.
- All pathways in both the Park and the Community will be open to pedestrian traffic. Pass them a smile as you go by.
- Absolutely no littering in the park or on the course. If you are caught you will have a 5 minute time violation and be forced to go back and pick up the litter. We take this rule very seriously as this is a provincial park and should be there for everyone to enjoy.
- In the Community you will be crossing streets, most streets are very quiet with very little traffic a few are busier. The busiest intersection will be the Midlake Blvd and Midpark Rise. This intersection is controlled by pedestrian crosswalk lights, as well as we will have 2 Radio Watch Flagman and 2 volunteers to get you safely across the road. Also, when you come out of the park on the south side you will have to run on Midlake Blvd for about 100 meters we will have a lane closed for you. The left turn across Midlake Blvd to transition will be manned by 4 volunteers as you head back west to transition.
- There will be 4 Aid Stations on course, approx every 2km. Please carry water in a pouch as our aid stations are more then 1 km apart.
- Aid Stations #1 will be transition. We will be serving you a selection of food and liquid products consisting of: Water, Heed Electrolyte, Bananas, Cookies, Hammer Gel, Ice, and Pretzels
- Aid Station #2 will be in Fish Creek park at the bottom of the first hill (2.1km). This location will be serving, Water, Heed Electrolyte, and Ice.
- Aid Station # 3 will be at the same location on the return route (4.2km). This location will be serving you, Water, Heed Electrolyte, Ice, Hammer Gels, Pretzels, and Bananas.
- Aid Station # 4 will be at the bottom of the Midnapore Hill pathway (7.21km). I call this hill Heart Break Hill. This location will be serving Water, Heed Electrolyte, Ice, Hammer Gels and bananas. This aid station will serve as aid station 5 as well, as you will be doing the out and back before you climb the hill. This gives you time to think about how to tackle Heart Break Hill.
- Race Bibs to be worn on the front (no exceptions)
No Walkmans, MP3 Players, Ipods, cell phones allowed on the bike course. No exceptions to the rules, immediate disqualification.
