Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the AAA Run/Walk:

What is the course layout?/Which direction are we running?

  • 2 Km Family Scamper - Starts next to the event site at City Park and heads south to the Abbott corridor. The route goes past Hot Sands Beach, through the tunnel, down Lake Ave to Abbott St. There will be a water station shortly after the tunnel at the start of Lake Ave. At the end of Lake Ave., the participants head south on Abbott St. The 2 Km turn around point is between Vimy and Beach avenues. There will be a 2 Km Turn around sign and a Course Marshal directing participants back via the same route to the finish. This is a flat course.

  • 5 Km Walk/Run - There will be a minor change to the route from last year. The first turn around point will be in the Tugboat Beach area rather than at the Dolphins. This is basically a flat course following along the waterfront with one very small hill in Waterfront Park.

This run starts next to the event site at City Park and heads north following the pathway along Okanagan Lake to the boat launch beside Rose's Pub. After crossing the boat launch area, participants turn left to the boat locks. After passing through the boat locks, participants will keep to their left and follow the boardwalk around Waterfront Park all the way to Concession Plaza at the south end of Tugboat Beach. The route will follow the walkway north along Tugboat Beach to a turn around point. There will be a water station in this area. Participants now head back to Concession Plaza. Course Marshals at the statues before the boardwalk will direct participants to turn to their left. The course goes through Waterfront Park, over the bridge by the waterfalls, past the Gazebo and back to the boat locks. Participants then return to City Park via the same route. Participants will continue along the pathway at City Park, past Hot Sands Beach and through the tunnel to Lake Ave. There will be a water station shortly after the tunnel at the start of Lake Ave. At the end of Lake Ave., the participants head south on Abbott St. The 5 Km turn around point is just after turning onto Abbott, between Lake and Vimy avenues. There will be a 5 Km turn around sign and a Course Marshal directing the 5 Km participants to turn around and head back via the same route to the start/finish gantry. The 5 km Run/Walk will feature clock timing.

  • 10 Km Run - This route is slightly under 10 Km. This is basically a flat course following along the waterfront with one very small hill in Waterfront Park. This route is basically doubling the 5 Km route except that after the first loop, participants continue north rather than turning down the vehicle service road to the start/finish gantry. They will turn down the vehicle service road to the start/finish gantry at the end of the second loop of the route.

It is just after turning onto Abbott, between Lake and Vimy avenues. There will be a 10 Km turn around sign and a Course Marshal directing the participants to turn around and head back to City Park via the same route. A Course Marshal at City Park pathway and the vehicle service road will direct the 10 Km participants to continue north along the pathway. Participants repeat the same route north to the gazebo and Wetlands signage and water station at the end of Tugboat Beach and then return south to the turn around point between Lake and Vimy avenues. Participants return to City Park via the same route. Course Marshals at the City Park pathway and vehicle service road will now direct participants down the service road past the event site, to the North Field and the start/finish gantry. The 10k Run will feature lock timing.
