For Runners
The 1/2 and full marathon courses are scenic and flat with very few elevation changes. Considered to be an excellent course for first timers and those looking for a personal best. For the marathon participants run along past a number of Ottawa’s most scenic tourist sites.
For Spectators
There are excellent viewing and cheering areas along the course. Friends and family can watch the start of the marathon and then walk 500 m north to the Sussex and Alexander Bridge to watch the runners cross from Gatineau, Quebec. Get a coffee in the Byward Market and then return to the bridge to see the runners go back over! Then it's just a short walk south to Wellington and Colonel By to cheer the runners on as they start the last 21K of the the marathon.
The last 21K of the course will run on both sides of the Rideau Canal, a National Capital Region landmark and gem, spectators can cheer and watch runners on both sides by crossing the Pretoria, Bank and Bronson Street bridges. Spectators can also take advantage of Dow's Lake facilities to view runners. The start/finish area acts as an excellent place to cheer on your friends or family member as they start, and for the exciting finish. Bleachers will be available at this location for spectators.
Water Stations
Water stations are located approximately every 3K along the marathon route. Each station will have water and Gatorade available. Power Gel will also be available at a few water stations along the route. Medical assistance is available at every water station along the route.

A Note to Runners Training on our Marathon Course
To anyone running or driving the new marathon course prior to the race. Please note that the short section shortly after the 17km mark on the marathon that starts at the Scott Paper factory security gate and goes to the security gate by the Chaudiere bridge and passes under the Portage Bridge is OFF LIMITS. We have graciously been given permission to use this section of private road during the race but in no ways prior to the race weekend. Please respect this restriction.
As an alternative please continue along Laurier and turn left at the Chaudiere Bridge. Rest assured that the road below the Portage Bridge is in excellent condition and follows a smooth decline and incline to pass under the bridge. You should experience no surprises. Thanks for your understanding.
