About the Pasta Party Guest Speaker (Joanne Shields):
Joanne Shields has been running and participating in triathlons for just over eight years and really believes that running has changed her life. Prior to running, Joanne had a serious weight problem and had dieted her entire life. Joanne lost over 100lbs and that is just the beginning of her remarkable story. Her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of forty, her father passed away with lung cancer, her brother in-law died from Leukemia and her mother was killed by a drunk driver, all within her short running career and yet she continued to run • and with a huge smile and incredible attitude. To date she has completed 15 marathons, three Ironman Distance Triathlons and many other races. To give back to her sport and the community, Joanne now coaches marathon runners and triathletes. Her incredible story, positive attitude and constant support has inspired hundreds of recreational runners to cross the marathon finish line, some for the first time and others to personal bests. Joanne will tell you this is the best part of the marathon, helping others train and cross the finish line that ?challenges and changes people?.

About the Pasta Party Guest Speaker (Dave Howlett):
Dave Howlett is an award-winning marathon runner who will show you how unflinching courage, brutal training and steely-eyed focus will allow you to meet your personal goals. He has a PB of 2:14:07* and won the 1996 Boston marathon**

Dave Howlett is a highly regarded inspirational speaker who’s humorous and educational talks have entertained hundreds of professionals in the medical, dental, athletic and business fields. Since he rolled off the couch 10 years ago (he married a personal trainer), Dave has slurped and burped watered-down Gatorade at marathons and Ironman competitions across North America. Since 1999, he has also taught “Howlett’s Heavy Breathers” marathon classes for the Oakville Running Room. In his spare time, he designs beautiful custom jewelry by stringing together lost toenails donated by generous runners.

Dave’s philosophy of living through laughter will keep you entertained until the finishing line!
