timing
All marathon, 21.1K, and 10K participants will use chip timing. Timing
chips will be picked up at package pick-up and returned at the finish line. Chips
not returned are the responsibility of the participant and a $40 charge will be
administered for unreturned chips. Deposits are not required.
course restrictions
For safety reasons, courses are limited to registered runners and walkers only.
Roller blades, skateboards, bicycles and pets are prohibited. The marathon
course will close at 1:00 p.m. Any marathon participant not completing the half
way mark by 10:00 a.m. will be awarded half marathon medals upon reaching
that point and transported back to the Edmonton City Hall.

- Water and electrolyte beverages at all stations on the route located
approximately every 3K.
- Toilets are located at each station.
- Gel station located at approximately 32K on
the marathon route.
- Full medical services on the route and at the finish line.
- Running Room Pace Bunnies for the marathon and 21.1K.
- Bag check available for Sunday events only.
- Post-race massage is available on Sunday for a fee. Register on the entry form.
- Kilometer markers along the entire route.
- Split time at marathon halfway mark.

Kids Marathon Mile

Who says you have to run/walk a marathon all in the same day?
This one-mile run/walk is the culmination of the marathon distance (26.2
miles or 42.2 km) that students have completed throughout the spring and
summer leading up to this event. The final mile will be celebrated together with
all finishers receiving the same finishers medals their adult counterparts receive
upon completion of their marathon. All children 16 and under looking to stay active
and learn the benefits of lifelong physical fitness are encouraged to participate in
this event. Pick up the Kids Marathon Mile Brochure and Log Book at any Running
Room location.

The Marathon was designed to showcase Edmontons scenic river valley and
surrounding neighborhoods for both local and visiting runners and walkers.
Participants will feel the excitement and enthusiasm of the volunteers and
spectators on this well supported route. Runners can use this event as a Boston
qualifier as it is AIMS Certified. The marathon begins and ends at City Hall located in the heart of downtown Edmonton. The course traces
a route that features the many faces of this friendly city including Hawrelak Park,
MacKinnon Ravine, downtown Edmonton and some great views of the river valley
from a number of established communities on both sides of the river.

The legacy route of the Energy Capital Half-Marathon (21.1) World Championships (2005) and the Canadian National Half-Marathon Championships (2006), this legendary river valley path plays host to the Energy Capital Alberta Open 21.1 Provincial Championships (2007). Participants will head through downtown into the river valley and split from the marathon course at MacKinnon Ravine, dart along side the North Saskatchewan River, up into west-end neighborhoods before turning back to the Edmonton City Hall. Separate start times and age group awards for walkers. Energy Capital is the Home of the 21.1!

Hot buffet brunch at City Hall for all participants (included in
entry). Additional brunch tickets are available to purchase for family and friends
to join in the celebration! Draw prizes and age group awards for both walkers
