On Christmas Day, 2009 my husband and I were thrilled to discover that we were pregnant with our daughter Callie. The first 4 months of the pregnancy were very difficult for me as I battled nausea constantly. I had a scare when I was 7 weeks pregnant, but despite these set backs our little girl continued to thrive and our excitement to grow. When I was just about 18 weeks we had a 3D ultrasound and it was here that we were told that we were having a little girl. We were able to see her and take pictures of her. She was perfect. At 23 weeks I noticed her movements had changed but because this was my first pregnancy, I did not know what to expect and thought everything was fine. Friends and family advised me that babies have quiet days. On May 13, 2010 I had my regular prenatal appointment and they could not locate Callie’s heartbeat. I was then sent for an emergency ultrasound. I could tell by the look on the technician’s face that there was cause for alarm. I was sent back to my doctor’s office where he confirmed what I already knew. My baby had died. I was induced at the hospital the next day and had our beautiful baby girl on May 15th, 2010 at 2:25 a.m. Once I had given birth, we were told that Callie had passed away from a twisted umbilical cord.

Trying to cope with the loss of a child is very difficult to do without support. With the help of PBSO, my husband and I have begun to work through the grief of losing Callie. In order to ensure that PBSO’s good works continue, and to give back to an organization that has helped not only us, but parents like us, we want to help raise money for PBSO in Callie’s honour. Please come out and run/walk with us on September 17th, 2011.
