-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the AAA Run/Walk-

How does the chip timing work?/How can I find out my time?

Chip Timing uses ChampionChip technology. The chip is a miniature transponder in combination with an
energizing coil in a specially designed plastic housing. These elements are encased in a waterproof glass
capsule, meaning the ChampionChip can be used under all conditions (wet, dry, cold and hot).

The ChampionChip can be worn in different ways. For the AAA run/walk event, the chip is attached to an
ankle bracelet. Each time a runner/walker wearing a ChampionChip crosses the mat at the start or finish, the
chip gets energized and sends out its ID-number. This number and corresponding time are then stored and
transferred to a timing computer for further processing.

The ChampionChip can register every individual start and finish time, even when participant is at the back of
the pack. This method of timing ensures that all participants get a reliable and accurate time of their run or
walk.

Results are posted at the event, in batches as the runners and walkers finish. The results are also posted,
generally later the same day as the event, on the Chip Time website at www.chiptimeresults.com.

What is the course layout?/Which direction are we running?
The AAA event is a straight “out-and back” course. All runners and walkers leave the Heydenshore Pavilion,
and head east on the Lakefront Trail. The 5k runners and walkers go out 2.5k, which is to Thickson Road,
and then return to the start/finish line. The 10k runners and walkers go out 5k, to Ice Sports, along the same
trail before turning around and returning to the Heydenshore Pavilion.
There is a water station at the 2.5k point of the course, at the turnaround for the 5k runners/walkers, which
are the 2.5k and 7.5k marks for the 10k runners/walkers.
There is food provided for runners and walkers near the finish of the course at the Heydenshore Pavilion.

Are there washrooms?

There are washrooms at the Heydenshore Pavilion, at the top of the hill slightly east of the start/finish line.
The washrooms are shown on the site map.

Where is medical help?

St. John’s Ambulance will be on site to provide medical assistance if required.

Where can I find out more about other runs in the area?
The Running Room Website (www.runningroom.com) is a good resource for upcoming runs across Ontario
and all of Canada.

Where does the money go?/Where can I contribute more?

The proceeds from the AAA Run/Walk support research and teaching in allergy, asthma and immunology.
For more information, please refer to our website, www.allergyfoundation.ca or www.aaia.ca.

You can make an extra contribution online at registration with the Running Room (www.runningroom.com),
on the AAIA website www.allergyfoundation.ca or www.aaia.ca, or at the run/walk itself.
